30th Wedding Anniversary Commission
Silver Tilt Tumbler with Contour Map Lid
The story…
This piece is a (self) collaboration with my other jewellery & silversmithing business ‘Contour Map Collection’.
I was approached by a lovely couple, looking to create something really special & meaningful to celebrate their pearl wedding anniversary after being happily married 30 years.
They felt passionately about where they live, enjoying the landscape of the North Cotswolds every day from their doorstep for the last 20 years. They also loved colour & contemporary silverware design, so they wanted to include these elements. Pearls needed to be intertwined in some way of course, however, in a subtle way. We discussed the ethics of pearls too, as a vegan maker I try to avoid using them wherever possible, so we agreed upon using beautiful pearlescent Czech glass seed beads.
The result was this solid silver tumbler, sitting with a jaunty tilt to show off the eco-resin lid with its dramatic, hand-pierced silver contour map which depicts the topography of the landscape they adore. Home is marked by a tiny faux pearl. The resin lid contains layers of vibrant green paintwork, reflecting the luscious countryside.
The Earrings
In secret, the husband also wanted to commission a little something extra to surprise her. He knew he wanted earrings, but didn’t have a clear picture in mind, but could confirm that they needed to be a bit different; bold but not garish and definitely very wearable, and again include pearls in some way. The only thing is, she’s not mad for pearls, so we decided to make them a less obvious detail, also giving them a slightly more contemporary edge.
The result was these, organic, almost rustic looking textured silver hoops which are shaped so as to conceal the pearl beads from the front, 3 pearls for 30 years.
