Holly Suzanna Clifford at One Year In 2019

PAINTERLY & BOLD ECO-RESIN JEWELLERY MAKING A STATEMENT AT ONE YEAR IN

Sheffield based jeweller & silversmith Holly Suzanna Clifford will be exhibiting at ‘One Year In’ this June at The Business Design Centre as part of a specially curated selection of design businesses. One Year In provides a platform for new design talent to show and sell their work, offering support to emerging creatives as well as giving visitors an opportunity to purchase work, meet the makers and take inspiration from the next generation of design. The exhibition is within the main New Designers event, which showcases the work of hundreds of graduates from across the UK’s top design courses.

Inspired by glasshouses and the way in which they have the ability to encase and hold an abundance of cascading greenery, Holly translates her ideas into wearable art using silver & eco-resin. Combining traditional skills with modern making techniques, she develops innovative collections of work incorporating a broad and vivid range of colour palettes. Originally from a fine-art background, Holly is strongly influenced by the work of great painters such as Monet & Klimt, which has led her to develop a unique way of blending art and jewellery. By layering paintwork inside eco-resin, she creates pieces with a wonderful sense of depth and mystery in which brushstrokes and mark making are highlighted; exploring the beauty of the unintentional.

“Being selected to be part of the One Year In cohort this year is such an exciting and unique opportunity for me and my business! I exhibited previously at New Designers as a graduate with my university (the Birmingham School of Jewellery) and it was fantastic for introducing my work on all levels – to the public, the trade and the press, so I’m really looking forward to building on these connections further and showing everyone how my practice has really developed & evolved since then. Over the past few years I have really refined the resin work, focusing on the paintwork more and introducing lots of new colours, combining this with sometimes minimal and other times intricate silverwork. Every piece I create is a total one-off item, due to the nature of painting by hand and my need to constantly bring the new ideas I have in my minds eye to life.”

For an opportunity to catch Holly’s painterly creations on show, head to Islington’s Business Design Centre for ‘week 1’ between June 26-29. Whilst in the area, make sure also to check out one of the UK’s most prestigious and exciting contemporary jewellery galleries, Gill Wing Jewellery, where you can also browse a collection of Holly’s work.
